Components for Americas Cup AC75 Class boat

Background/ Overview
From industry links with motorsport, Langstone were invited by a local company to manufacture initially small parts for Ben Ainslie Racing in 2016. This has subsequently developed into the production of more complex items including foils, wings and rudders for the current class of boat in the 36th Americas Cup. The AC75 Class is a high-performance monohull with a foil. The Team at Langstone provided mission-critical support in ensuring the precision engineered rudders, wings and foiling were developed, manufactured, inspected and delivered in time for the launch of both AC75’s RB1 & RB2 with continued manufacturing support leading up to the America cup races in 2021

Production of mission critical parts
The company provided thousands of hours, 24/7, helping address design challenges associated with the timely production of critical, fragile parts. Langstone solved manufacturing issues arising at a rival manufacturing plant

Outcome & Opportunity
The successful launch of the new boat in 2020 was dependent on key parts produced by LangstoneThe key dates for the 36th America’s Cup include Christmas Race in Auckland, December 2020 Challenger Selection Series (The Prada Cup), January/February 2021 America’s Cup Match, 6-21 March 2021Opportunity to continue support Sir Ben Ainslie and the INEOS Team UK during the current and future America’s Cup on new boat developments together with their supply chain partners.

Ventilator Challenge

Background / Overview
Langstone Engineering were approached by a number of industrial partners to assist with the ventilator challenge in March 2020. The unique position of Langstone, having both precision engineering and toolmaking skills and the ability to operate within a tight timeframe, meant it was well positioned to assist in this challenge.

Services

  • The company worked 24/7 to meet the required delivery deadlines.
  • Within 24 hours of an order, the company designed and manufactured to client requirements
  • The company regularly provided prototyping, injection mould tools, vacuum moulds, rubber seals and components for the ventilator challenge

Outcome
The company successfully worked on a number of Ventilator programmes by various leading industrial manufacturers and their supply chain partners including

Rapid tooling

“I always get exceptional quality when I order from you and I know parts will fit and work when they turn up. It doesn’t always work like that and its very important when we are working to such tight timescales.”

Bob Simpson - Dynamique Ltd

Rapid-prototype tooling

“As a rubber injection moulder, our lead times, capability and quality are only as good as our supply chain. Langstone Engineering have allowed us to quote quickly, rapid-prototype (RP), win the production order and then mass- manufacture rubber components for many Tier 1 OEMs.

In many cases, we have won the RP work through Langstone Engineering before other suppliers have even replied to the original request for quotation.”

Charlie Easton - Product Management Director - Butser rubber

Langstone’s exceptional service

“The service we received from Langstone on a recent project has been exceptional. They provided design solutions in a very competitive timeframe and ensured that we were promptly updated on all aspects of the design & manufacture with complete transparency.

It’s clear to see that they have a passion for their work. I’d happily recommend their services to anyone in the engineering sector.”
