Mould tool, jig & fixture manufacturing

Having created more than 10,000 tools for manufacturers for more than 25 years, we know we can support in the end-to-end process. To create outstanding parts, the tooling needs to be designed and engineered to exacting standards, which is where Langstone Engineering can help. Our experience covers compression, transfer and injection rubber moulding tools as well as jigs and fixtures used in production, assembly and inspection.

Various tooling examples including:

  • We are specialists in manufacturing rubber mould tooling comprising of:
    • Compression mould tools – essentially a tool constructed from two metal halves that squeeze heated rubber into the required part shape. This may be supplemented by cheeks, wedges and core bars for more complex parts
    • Transfer mould tools – these operate by rubber being fed directly into the mould cavity, fed from a small chamber. A plunger then pushes the rubber through small channels into the mould, where it fills the required shape and is heated until it cures
    • Injection mould tools – here softened rubber is injected into a closed mould under pressure, where it fills the required shape and cures. This enables higher volume production than either compression or transfer moulds
  • Carbon fibre moulds and formers
  • Plastic and TPE mould tool manufacture
  • Surface modelling design and drawing
  • Composite bonding and routing jigs
  • Drill jigs and location fixtures
  • Pattern and wind tunnelModel manufacture
  • Dies for cold forming and welding

Materials we work in:

At Langstone we manufacture tools in a range of materials to suit different applications and needs including:

  • Aluminium – various grades suitable for low volume production and prototyping needs (lower cost-effective option) or for longer term use and higher production volumes
  • P20 and/or hardened steel – suitable for higher volume production and for tools that will be in service for a long time (long term value for money choice)
  • Model Board/Nylon – suitable for jigs & fixtures

Design:

Our experienced team can design tools from part drawings or part CAD models.

We can also reverse engineer parts/tooling by scanning parts and/or tools.

Surface finish range:

At Langstone Engineering we offer a range of surface finishes including VDI and SPI options.

These include:
VDI12 to VDI45, SPI A1 to SPI B3 and SPI C1 to SPI D3

Mould Tooling Repairs & Modifications

At Langstone we understand high quality parts are produced from tools maintained in optimum condition. For that, we provide a range of mould tooling repairs and modifications that help ensure high yields and prolong tool life.

The services we offer include:

  • Modifications: when parts have simple modifications tools can sometimes be reworked meet new requirements. Similarly, you may be looking to use tools in a different press where modification is needed for it to fit
  • Component replacement/redesign: we can manufacture and supply tool components to replace worn/damaged parts, or to facilitate a design change to an existing part
  • Repair and Rectification: We can repair worn tools (depending on the amount of wear and tear) as well as replacing worn or damaged components
